New Delhi (Monitoring Desk) – Ethnic tensions have once again intensified in India’s state of Manipur, where several houses were set on fire, further worsening the situation in the region.
According to the Indian magazine The Statesman, several homes were burned during ethnic violence in the southern area of Imphal district, creating fear and panic among residents.
Reports state that a large number of security personnel have been deployed following the incidents to control the escalating situation.
According to the Indian publication, two people, including the head of Hengjang village, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident.
Indian human rights activist Nandita Haksar expressed concern over the situation in Manipur, saying that the government is ignoring the actual causes behind the crisis.
She alleged that the continuous violent incidents in Manipur indicate the government’s failure to maintain law and order.
