Ankara (Monitoring Desk): U.S. President Donald Trump has said that the ceasefire with Iran has ended, adding that dealing with Iran is a waste of time and that the United States now has to take action.
Speaking alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Ankara, the capital of Türkiye, Donald Trump said he had held constructive talks with the NATO chief and that NATO is an important partner of the United States. He said Iran cannot be allowed to possess nuclear weapons.
Criticizing NATO countries, Trump said the United States provides the largest financial support to the alliance, while some countries are not fulfilling their responsibilities. He said allied countries should play a greater role in defense spending.
Responding to a question about the ceasefire with Iran, the U.S. President said that in his view the ceasefire has ended and he does not want to engage with Iran further. He said too much time has been wasted on the Iran issue and that the United States now needs to focus on its own actions.
Trump claimed that Iran had attacked Saudi and other countries' ships, in response to which the U.S. military took action. He further claimed that Iran's leadership had been eliminated and that new people are now in charge there.
The U.S. President also criticized Spain, saying he is not interested in continuing relations and trade with the country. He also repeated his previous stance regarding Greenland and the Panama Canal.
