U.S. Congress Passes War Powers Resolution, Directs President to Withdraw Military Forces

Washington (Monitoring Desk): A recent vote in the U.S. Senate on war powers is being described as a significant development in American foreign policy.

For the first time, both houses of the U.S. Congress have passed a resolution under the 1973 War Powers Act, directing the President to withdraw U.S. forces from hostile activities.

The Washington-based organization Just Foreign Policy has described this joint resolution to end war-related actions against Iran as a historic anti-war milestone.

Gregory Meeks, a Democratic leader in the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said the resolution is legally binding and must be implemented, regardless of what President Donald Trump says.

He further stated that all legal avenues would be pursued to ensure that the administration complies with Congress’s decision.
