Beijing (Web Desk): A Chinese startup has unveiled a 13-foot-tall humanoid robot equipped with artificial intelligence, claiming that it can lift weights of up to 500 kilograms and perform highly delicate tasks, such as threading a needle.
According to Beijing-based company Neudra Dynamics, the robot, named Neo1, has been designed to perform heavy and challenging tasks in industrial environments. Company founder Yang Tao says robots should not be limited to imitating the human form but should be capable of performing tasks beyond human physical abilities.
Weighing approximately 1.2 metric tonnes, the robot uses hydraulic actuators instead of conventional electric motors. According to the company, its fingertips have a precision of up to 0.01 millimetres, enabling it to perform extremely delicate tasks.
The robot was unveiled this month at the China International Industry Fair 2026. It has been designed for tasks such as heavy machinery assembly, mining and debris removal following natural disasters.
The company says combining hydraulic and electric technologies could help address challenges related to the strength and durability of robots. It has also indicated that the robot may be introduced for domestic use in the future.
However, the company has yet to demonstrate the robot's claimed capabilities in practice. The model presented at the industrial exhibition also appeared to have limited movement in its limbs.
According to China's National Bureau of Statistics, more than 2 million industrial robots are already operating in the country. A report released last month by the International Federation of Robotics stated that China accounts for 59 percent of newly installed robots in factories worldwide.
