Islamabad (Pakistan News): The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has formally invited the opposition to join the electoral reforms committee, while the opposition has indicated that it will give a positive response after consultations.
According to sources, Mahmood Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas have sought time to consult the PTI leadership. On the instructions of Bilawal Bhutto, a PPP delegation held a second meeting with opposition leaders within a few hours. During the meeting, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas agreed with the proposal to make transparency in elections more effective.
Sources said the committee would review alleged rigging in the 2024 general elections, by-elections, and elections in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. It would identify those responsible and formulate recommendations to prevent such incidents in the future.
On the occasion, Sherry Rehman said the opposition had sought time for consultations before responding, adding that she hoped to receive a positive reply.
