California (Web Desk): Google has imposed usage limits on its Gemini artificial intelligence models following increased demand for computing capacity from Meta, as the company was unable to provide the required infrastructure capacity.
According to reports, Google informed Meta in March that it could not provide the full computing capability required for the use of Gemini models. As a result of this shortage, some of Meta's internal artificial intelligence projects were affected and experienced delays.
The report stated that other Google customers were also affected by these restrictions, although the impact on them was relatively limited. Meta, however, faced greater difficulties because its demand for Google's artificial intelligence models was exceptionally high.
Due to these limitations, Meta instructed its employees to use artificial intelligence tokens — the units used to measure AI usage — more efficiently.
Technology companies are investing billions of dollars in advanced chips and data centers. Despite these investments, obtaining sufficient computing capacity to meet the rapidly growing demand for artificial intelligence services remains a major challenge.
During the first quarter ending in March, Google Cloud revenue increased to 20 billion dollars. However, Sundar Pichai stated that limited computing capacity affected the pace of further growth and led to an almost twofold increase in the cloud unit's backlog of orders on a quarter-on-quarter basis.
