Mumbai (Sports Desk): India registered its biggest-ever Test victory over Afghanistan, defeating them by an innings and 300 runs in a historic match.
The only Test match was played in New Chandigarh.
In the first innings, India declared at 564 for 8. Captain Shubman Gill played a brilliant innings of 126 runs, while KL Rahul scored a century. Sai Sudharsan and Rishabh Pant contributed 81 runs each, strengthening India’s position.
For Afghanistan, Mohammad Saleem delivered an outstanding bowling performance, taking six wickets, while Zia-ur-Rehman and Hashmatullah Shahidi picked up one wicket each.
In response, Afghanistan were bowled out for just 150 runs in the first innings, after which India enforced the follow-on.
In the second innings, Afghanistan’s batting lineup once again collapsed and were dismissed for 112 runs. Rahmat Shah scored 60 runs in the first innings, while Sediqullah Atal made 42 in the second innings, offering brief resistance.
India’s debutant Manav Suthar took six wickets in the first innings, while Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar also played key roles in dismantling Afghanistan’s batting order.
India won the match by an innings and 300 runs, marking their biggest Test victory, while Afghanistan suffered one of their heaviest defeats in Test cricket.
