Lahore (Sports Desk): The possibility of legendary England fast bowler James Anderson bringing his professional cricket career to an end has increased after county club Lancashire decided not to offer him a new contract for the upcoming season.
According to details, the 44-year-old James Anderson was informed of the decision by senior club officials this week. Following his retirement from international cricket in 2024, he had been playing for his home county, Lancashire, and also captained the team during the 2026 season.
Anderson delivered an impressive performance this season, taking 50 wickets at an average of 17.68. However, even his outstanding bowling could not prevent Lancashire from recording poor results in the County Championship.
According to reports, the English fast bowler had hoped to continue playing cricket until 2027. However, Lancashire’s decision not to offer him a new contract has created uncertainty about his future. It remains unclear whether he will join another county club or retire from the game altogether.
James Anderson retired from international cricket after playing his final Test match in July 2024. During his illustrious Test career, he played 188 matches and took 704 wickets, securing a prominent place among the most successful fast bowlers in the world.
Following administrative changes at Lancashire, questions have arisen about Anderson’s future, while the club is also considering various candidates for the position of its new captain.
