Quetta (Pakistan News) The Balochistan government has released a detailed report on the attack on the Mangi Dam police check post, according to which at least 27 security personnel were martyred while 15 terrorists were killed in the attack.
The provincial government’s report stated that militants adopted a specific strategy during the attack, while the personnel deployed at the post were already aware of a possible threat. After intelligence agencies received information about the possibility of an attack, additional personnel were deployed at the post a few days earlier.
According to the report, on the morning of July 6, around 35 police personnel under the command of a DSP were performing their duties, while the nearest Frontier Corps post was located approximately 20 kilometers away.
According to the provincial government, at around 11 am, intermittent firing sounds were heard from a distant area, and the information was immediately conveyed to police headquarters and Frontier Corps officials. Since additional personnel and better weapons were available at the post, the commanding officer was confident that the personnel were capable of handling the situation.
The report said that after the attack, police headquarters sent a special team of around 35 personnel for reinforcement, while the Frontier Corps also sent an armed helicopter for aerial surveillance and support, which monitored the area for nearly one and a half hours.
According to the government report, instead of launching an immediate direct attack, the terrorists continued intermittent firing to force police personnel to use maximum ammunition. By evening, most of the ammunition at the post had been used, but the personnel remained firm in their positions.
The report stated that when additional police forces reached near the post, terrorists opened heavy fire on them, forcing the reinforcement team to stop at some distance. During this time, the Frontier Corps targeted terrorists using advanced surveillance equipment and mortar fire, under the cover of which police and FC personnel began advancing.
According to the government report, at night the terrorists launched a direct attack on the post and came extremely close. During the intense clash, 15 terrorists were killed, while 9 police personnel were martyred and 3 were injured. After the arrival of reinforcements, the injured personnel were shifted to a safe location.
The report further stated that after ammunition was almost exhausted, the remaining personnel, including the DSP and 28 police officers, began moving out in two groups under the cover of darkness. One group led by the DSP managed to escape safely, while the second group, consisting of 18 personnel, was taken hostage by the terrorists.
According to the Balochistan government, the geography of the area is extremely difficult, with high mountains, deep ravines, rocky paths and valleys, making movement and operations challenging. Therefore, the advance of police and Frontier Corps personnel was carried out with extreme caution.
After the incident, the Frontier Corps and Pakistan Army launched a large-scale search operation across the area. Officials said the operation in more than 300 square kilometers of difficult mountainous terrain will continue until all terrorists are eliminated.
The provincial government said that misleading information also emerged from various circles after the incident; however, according to available evidence, the personnel deployed at the Mangi Dam police post resisted bravely until the end.
According to the report, after recent terrorist attacks in Balochistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir visited Quetta on Thursday, where the Prime Minister reiterated his resolve to completely eliminate terrorism and said that the operation would continue until the last terrorist is eliminated.
