Moscow (Commerce Desk): Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division) Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has said that relations between Pakistan and Russia have significantly improved over the past two decades, with cooperation continuing to expand in various fields including trade, energy, defense, and technology.
He said that the old mistrust associated with the Soviet era has now ended, and bilateral relations have entered a new and positive phase.
According to the federal minister, high-level engagements between the leadership of both countries have increased in recent times, including multiple meetings between the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the President of Russia.
He stated that cooperation between Pakistan and Russia is being advanced in a structured manner under the Inter-Governmental Commission, particularly in the energy sector, while consultations are also ongoing on security, counter-terrorism, and regional cooperation.
Sardar Awais Leghari described regional connectivity as a key pillar of bilateral relations, saying that Pakistan is interested in joining the International North-South Transport Corridor, which could further boost trade activities in the region.
He welcomed the proposal to link Gwadar Port with this corridor, calling it an important step toward regional economic cooperation and global connectivity.
