New York (Web Desk) — NASA has released the clearest images yet of the crater created when SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket struck the lunar surface.
According to NASA, the rocket’s upper stage hit the Moon on August 5, 2026, at a speed of approximately 8,700 kilometers per hour. Scientists said the impact created a crater about 60 feet wide and less than 10 feet deep.
The images also show bright and dark markings around the crater, indicating that lunar soil and debris were scattered by the rocket’s impact.
NASA said the new images will help scientists better understand the effects of unintended rocket impacts on the lunar surface.
