Islamabad (Pakistan News) — The Federal Constitutional Court has issued a notice to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on a petition challenging the closure of the Haris Steel Mills reference and ordered that the current status of the matter be maintained until the next hearing.
During the hearing, the bank’s lawyer Khawaja Haris argued that a loan was obtained through fraud using fake documents, in which some officials of the Bank of Punjab were also allegedly involved.
Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi questioned whether documents were not verified at that time. The court raised questions over the lack of precautionary measures earlier and action taken only after the incident occurred.
Justice Aamir Farooq observed that the main issue was whether NAB’s decision to close the reference could be challenged or not. The court adjourned further proceedings until after the judicial holidays.
The court also suspended interim orders of the Sindh High Court regarding an inquiry against the Sindh Public Service Commission, stopping interviews of successful candidates and rechecking papers of unsuccessful candidates.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan rejected the Customs Department’s request for a stay order regarding the return of case property in an appeal challenging the cancellation of an FIR in the Iranian diesel smuggling case.
During the hearing, the Customs lawyer stated that seized smuggled diesel is auctioned, while Justice Razi Khan remarked that a permit for one tanker is being used to bring multiple tankers.
Meanwhile, the court issued a written order declaring the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the demolition of Monal Restaurant null and void. The order stated that the authority to approve any construction project or activity for public interest within the limits of Margalla Hills National Park rests with the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
The eight-page order was written by Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi, stating that judicial powers were exceeded in the Monal case.
The court also accepted an appeal by Karachi University regarding service matters and set aside the Sindh High Court’s decision dated 13 June 2025.
