Dubai (Sports Desk): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has begun considering changes to the current format of the One Day International (ODI) World Cup.
According to a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), a proposal is under consideration to reduce the number of participating teams in the ODI World Cup from 14 to 12. There are also indications that a “Super Seven” stage could be introduced in the 2027 World Cup.
The report stated that the new tournament format could lead to an increase in the number of traditional Pakistan-India matches.
Similarly, a proposal has emerged to introduce a semi-final stage in the World Test Championship to make the competition more exciting and competitive. This formula is being considered to boost interest in Test cricket among mid-ranked teams.
The ICC is also reviewing the possibility of changing the “Super Eight” stage of the ICC T20 World Cup into a “Super Ten” stage. In addition, preparations for organizing a football-style World Club T20 Tournament in cricket have been accelerated.
Meanwhile, there are also possibilities that future cricket calendars may feature four-nation short tournaments instead of traditional bilateral series.
