Lahore (Web Desk) A new investigation and report has claimed that Russian hackers have compromised hundreds of accounts on the social media platform Bluesky and used them to spread fake news and propaganda content.
According to the New York Times, around 2,000 such posts have been removed since April, with incidents continuing to emerge periodically.
Experts say these activities indicate a new and more aggressive phase in Russia’s online disinformation campaign, aimed at influencing public opinion in favor of Ukraine.
Darren Linvill, director of the Media Forensics Hub at Clemson University, stated that Russian hackers are continuously changing their tactics. Earlier, fake accounts and fabricated content were used, but now real compromised accounts are being exploited to spread content.
A research group called “D-Team” has linked these activities to a Moscow-based company, Social Design Agency, which has previously been accused of spreading online propaganda and misinformation campaigns.
