Waqar Younis Jokes About 36-Year-Old ‘Golden Duck’ Incident

Lahore (Sports Desk): Former Pakistan captain and legendary fast bowler Waqar Younis has made an amusing comment about the 1990 incident in which he dismissed former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu off the very first ball he faced.

During a recent appearance on Shubhankar Mishra's podcast, Waqar Younis revisited memories of the Pakistan-India match played in Sharjah in 1990, when he clean-bowled Sidhu with the first delivery of his innings.

Speaking about the 36-year-old incident, Waqar joked that he believed Kapil Sharma had planted the story in Sidhu's mind. He said he had indeed dismissed Sidhu off the first ball in Sharjah, but Kapil Sharma had exaggerated the incident so much that it had become a constant subject of jokes.

Addressing Sidhu, Waqar said he should not take the matter too seriously, as such things happen in life.

It is worth mentioning that the incident took place during the Pakistan-India match in the Austral-Asia Cup in Sharjah on April 27, 1990. Pakistan batted first and scored 235 runs in 50 overs. While chasing the target, India's Manoj Prabhakar was dismissed for 27 runs when the team score was 61. Sidhu then came to the crease, but Waqar Younis clean-bowled him with the very first ball he bowled to him.

Sidhu returned to the pavilion without scoring a run, an achievement known in cricket terminology as a "golden duck". Waqar Younis took 4 wickets in the match, while Pakistan defeated India by 26 runs.
