Afghan Envoy at UN Says Afghan People Do Not Support Taliban Decisions

Kabul (Monitoring Desk) A controversy has emerged over efforts to give official legal status to recent actions taken by the Taliban government in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Naseer Ahmad Andisha, has clarified that Taliban-issued orders cannot be recognized as official state laws of Afghanistan nor can they be considered representative of the will of the people.

He said that Afghan citizens do not support Taliban decisions and that current policies do not reflect public aspirations.

According to the envoy, public reactions and protests against Taliban policies have also been witnessed in different parts of Afghanistan.

Experts say this position at the United Nations indicates that efforts to give the Taliban government international legitimacy are not succeeding, while its decisions largely reflect a specific ideological approach.
