WASHINGTON (Monitoring Desk): US Senator and Democratic leader Chuck Schumer has celebrated his party’s election success, saying the American people voted for change.
According to foreign media reports, Schumer said Republicans had paid the price for supporting President Donald Trump. He added that Democrats now had a responsibility to deliver tangible results for the public.
He said his party had listened to voters’ concerns and strengthened its connection with the public. He added that the impact of the change in the Senate would not be limited to the elections but would also be felt in the future.
Meanwhile, Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders also welcomed the victory, saying Democrats would now be able to hold President Trump accountable, describing it as a significant development.
He said practical steps were needed to address the growing gap between income and wealth, adding that there would now be no room for excuses.
