NEW YORK (Monitoring Desk): Former US President Barack Obama has reacted to the election results, saying the public has sent a message in favour of politics based on unity and solidarity rather than division.
In his statement, Obama said American citizens wanted leadership that brought people together instead of deepening their differences and took practical steps to address the challenges facing the country.
He said capable candidates had emerged from different parts of the country, pledging to serve the public and prioritise the interests of their constituencies in line with their political beliefs and backgrounds.
The former US president said the current US administration had two more years in power, during which it would need to take concrete steps to bring improvements and prevent further damage.
