WASHINGTON (Monitoring Desk): US President Donald Trump has acknowledged the Republican Party’s defeat in the midterm elections and indicated that he is willing to work with Democrats. He said the two parties could reach an agreement on certain issues.
In an interview with The New York Times, Trump said he was prepared to accept the election results and cooperate with the opposition. He expressed hope that the two parties could agree on a common course of action or reach a compromise.
Commenting on the defeat of Republican candidates, the US president said the party’s performance had suffered because his own name was not on the ballot. According to him, the results could have been different if he had been a candidate himself.
Trump also defended his decision to support Republican candidates who failed to win Senate seats, saying he had no regrets about it. He also defended his decision to launch a war against Iran, describing it as a wise move.
Following the election results, Trump said on his social media platform, Truth Social, that he would review the reasons behind the success and failure of the candidates. He also hinted that he might take on the role of a political commentator.
He also shared an image of a red cap bearing the word “VETO”, signalling that he could use his presidential veto power if Democrats attempted to pass legislation in Congress.
Despite the defeat of Republican candidates, Trump expressed satisfaction with the performance of the first two years of his second presidential term, saying he had no regrets about his actions.
