Germany (Web Desk) — Experts have warned Facebook users to think carefully before sharing any public posts on social media, as new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered search features could make old public posts far easier to find in the future, raising concerns about privacy and online security.
According to experts, if a user previously shared public posts about personal matters, disagreements with friends, or other sensitive topics, AI-powered search tools could retrieve that information within seconds. Previously, finding such posts among thousands of entries was much more difficult.
Reports indicate that Facebook is preparing to introduce a new AI-driven search feature. Instead of simply searching for keywords, the search bar will function more like a chat assistant by answering users' questions. The system will also make it relatively easier to access public posts, comments, and other available information from several years ago.
Experts say that while the feature will improve access to information, it could also increase privacy and cybersecurity risks. They warn that cybercriminals may use AI to analyze publicly available information and more easily target users through fraud, scams, or other online crimes.
Cybersecurity experts have advised users not to make personal information publicly available unless necessary and to change the privacy setting of Facebook posts from Public to Friends or a more limited audience. They also recommend using Facebook's “Limit Past Posts” feature, which allows previously shared public posts to be restricted to friends only.
Experts further emphasized that users should regularly review their privacy settings and avoid sharing personal information that could pose a risk to their privacy or security in the future.
