Islamabad (Commerce Desk) Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb has said that the government has set a clear economic direction through the budget, adding that it will contribute to development and an increase in economic growth.
Wrapping up the general debate on the budget in the National Assembly, he said that further proposals are being considered for inclusion in the Finance Bill 2026, while progress is also being made towards eliminating discretionary powers through digitization and artificial intelligence.
The Finance Minister said that proposals from members of parliament have been included in the budget, however some objections regarding the budget documents were based on misinterpretation.
He clarified that GDP and other economic indicators are prepared by the National Accounts Committee, which also includes provincial representation, and therefore figures should be viewed in the correct context.
According to Muhammad Aurangzeb, the government has generated an additional $14 billion in revenue over the past two years, while priority has been given to restructuring the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and improving financial resource management.
