Islamabad (Pakistan News) — A flood alert has been issued in various parts of the country amid fears of flooding in rivers and streams.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority, rainfall expected until September 17, 2026, could create a risk of flooding in some areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Balochistan.
The authority said rainfall in upper regions could increase water flows in rivers and streams.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, sudden flooding could occur in Gilgit, Diamer, Ghizer, Ashkoman, Gupis-Yasin, Nagar, Hunza, Shimshal, Skardu and Shigar. A risk of flooding has also been identified in Upper Dir, Swat, Bajaur, Malakand, Kurram, Kohistan, Mohmand and Orakzai in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to NDMA, flooding is also possible in Zhob, Sherani and Musakhel districts of Balochistan.
Islamabad and various areas of Punjab, including urban areas of Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Sheikhupura, also face the risk of flooding.
The NDMA has issued advance warnings to all relevant agencies and directed them to complete necessary preparations to deal with possible flooding. The National Emergency Operations Center is assessing potential risks in advance and informing the public and relevant institutions in a timely manner.
The authority has advised citizens to avoid passing through storm drains, flooded roads, bridges and low-lying routes during heavy rainfall. Citizens have also been advised to use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert app for information on verified weather conditions, potential risks and safety measures.
According to the NDMA, citizens can contact the 911 helpline for assistance during a flood emergency.
