Google Assistant to Be Replaced by Gemini on Android Devices

California (Web Desk) Google Assistant, which has been a built-in feature on Android smartphones for years, will soon become a thing of the past as Google phases it out in favor of its artificial intelligence-powered assistant, Gemini.

Google Assistant was first introduced in May 2016 through the Allo messaging app. The company is now making Gemini its primary AI assistant across Android devices.

According to reports, Google has informed some users via email that Google Assistant will no longer be available on Android phones, tablets, and Wear OS devices starting September 4, 2026.

Although Google initially planned to begin this transition in 2025, the company later decided to keep Google Assistant available for a longer period before completing the rollout.

Over the past few months, Google has been gradually introducing Gemini as the default assistant on a wide range of devices.

Users who are still relying on Google Assistant are being encouraged to switch to Gemini. In addition to handling standard phone commands, Gemini can understand and respond to text, voice, and image-based prompts, allowing it to perform a broader range of tasks powered by artificial intelligence.

Like Google Assistant, Gemini can also be activated using voice commands, enabling users to carry out many everyday tasks hands-free.
