Tehran (Monitoring Desk): Iran has reiterated its position on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, saying the key maritime route will not be reopened as long as US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remain in power.
According to Iranian media, Mohammad Bagher Zolqadr, political adviser to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, said in a statement issued regarding 200 days of resistance that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is part of the first phase of Iran’s retaliatory measures.
He said that over the past 200 days, the Iranian people had demonstrated resistance and perseverance. According to him, Iran has stood against external forces for decades in defense of its identity, independence and sovereignty, and continues to maintain its position.
Mohammad Bagher Zolqadr claimed that opposing forces expected Iran to be defeated within a few days, but the Iranian people thwarted those efforts.
He paid tribute to Iranian leaders killed in the ongoing war with the United States and Israel, the children of Minab School, young people from Lamerd, soldiers from Bampur, and personnel of the warship Dena.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world’s most important maritime routes for the transportation of oil and gas. Concerns that its closure by Iran could disrupt global energy supplies have led to a significant rise in oil prices.
