New York (Web Desk) A lawsuit has been filed in a US court against technology company OpenAI and its chief executive, alleging that a 24-year-old woman died by suicide after using ChatGPT.
The lawsuit was filed in a court in the US state of California by a woman from Canada, who claims that her daughter Alice initially used ChatGPT for solving computer and other problems; however, over time, her dependence on it increased.
According to the petitioner, in the final days of her life, Alice discussed mental stress and suicidal thoughts with ChatGPT, but allegedly the safety system failed to intervene effectively.
The lawsuit claims that the artificial intelligence system responded to Alice like an emotional support companion, due to which she gradually moved away from real sources of help.
On the other hand, an OpenAI spokesperson expressed sorrow over the incident and said that the system Alice was using is no longer available.
