Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has abolished the 2012 regulations related to Mobile Virtual Network Operators, paving the way for the implementation of a new regulatory framework for these companies. Under the new Policy Framework 2025, licenses will be issued to Mobile Virtual Network Operators. Companies that do not own spectrum will also be able to provide mobile and next-generation communication services. The new license will have a term of 15 years, while the fee will be $140,000. Companies obtaining a license will be required to be registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan. Mobile Virtual Network Operators will be allowed to operate their own brands, customer services and billing systems; however, their licenses may be cancelled if they fail to launch services within one year. Under the regulations, operators will be responsible for meeting all requirements related to quality of service and national security. To discontinue services, they will be required to provide at least three months’ prior notice and obtain approval from the PTA. The responsibility for mobile number portability and the allocation of numbers will be jointly undertaken by the relevant telecom company and the Mobile Virtual Network Operator.
