California (Web Desk): According to a new local survey, six out of 10 Americans believe that artificial intelligence could cause the extinction of humanity in the future.
The US political news organization Politico has released the results of a survey based on the opinions of 2,064 American adults, indicating public concern over the potential negative effects of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence.
Regarding the risk of human extinction caused by artificial intelligence, 17 percent of respondents described it as “almost certain,” 20 percent as a “significant risk,” and 26 percent as “somewhat of a risk.”
On the other hand, 15 percent of participants described it as a “very low risk,” 7 percent said there was “no risk,” while 15 percent appeared uncertain about the issue.
The views of supporters of US President Donald Trump were also not uniform. In the survey, 44 percent supported halting the development of artificial intelligence, while 40 percent said its progress should continue because the technology could still provide significant benefits.
