Washington (Monitoring Desk): US President Donald Trump has announced an agreement with Denmark and Greenland, saying that the United States will have permanent authority over Greenland’s security and other requirements.
In a statement posted on social media, Trump claimed that under the agreement, the United States would have complete freedom to take necessary measures to protect Greenland and its own security, while it would not have to bear any financial burden in this regard.
According to him, no hostile country would be allowed to establish a military base, deploy troops or make sensitive investments in Greenland without written permission from the United States.
The US president further said that the process of establishing a large military presence in suitable areas of Greenland would begin immediately, and that the US would work with the local population for this purpose.
Trump said previous US presidents were also aware of Greenland’s geographical and strategic importance, but the matter had not been resolved on a permanent basis.
According to a foreign news agency, Trump has announced the agreement, but the governments of Denmark and Greenland have not immediately publicly confirmed its details.
