Lahore (Sports Desk) — Japan is facing a serious accommodation crisis ahead of the Asian Games, with more than 17,000 athletes and officials expected to participate in the event.
According to media reports, the accommodation crisis has intensified due to the absence of a dedicated athletes’ village. To address the situation, arrangements are being made at hotels, temporary wooden cabins and a cruise ship.
South Korea’s basketball team has raised concerns over the small and substandard cabins. Officials said players taller than two meters cannot stretch their legs out fully on the beds.
South Korean basketball players have also shared videos on social media showing leaking sinks and water-soaked floors inside the cabins.
The Philippines has begun using online rental accommodations to cope with the housing crisis, while Italy’s cruise ship “Costa Serena” will accommodate between 4,000 and 5,000 athletes.
Basketball and football competitions at the Asian Games have already begun. Last week, hundreds of athletes had to be temporarily moved to safe locations due to heavy rain, while the situation is feared to worsen as more rainfall is forecast in Nagoya.
