LAHORE (Sports Desk): Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has been selected by Kandahar Warriors as the first overall pick in the Afghanistan Premier League 2026 draft. He has been placed in the Platinum category, under which he will receive a fee of $100,000.
The 34-year-old Mohammad Amir was picked during the draft held at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. Interestingly, he registered for the league as a British citizen, although his place of residence was listed as Pakistan in the draft records.
At Kandahar Warriors, he will play alongside experienced Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, England batter Joe Clarke and South Africa’s Dwaine Pretorius.
Mohammad Amir acquired British citizenship in May this year, which means he may not need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Representing Pakistan, he has played 36 Test matches, 61 One-Day Internationals and 62 T20 matches. His last international appearance was against Ireland in the T20 World Cup in June 2024.
Meanwhile, amid diplomatic tensions, the chances of other Pakistani players receiving NOCs from the Pakistan Cricket Board are reportedly considered low.
